Happy Birthday to The SDP.  On May 24, 2006, four enthusiastic women, launched a new organization devoted to increasing the credibility of the interior decorating industry.  Last week, this 'reporter" announced it was our third birthday, in actuality, it is our second birthday and the beginning of our third year.  My apologies, I think because we have accomplished so much already, it just seems like we have been around longer. But let's move on this week with a selection of Frequently Asked Questions about The SDP.

 

 

 

Supporting a dedicated decorating professional

Many of you have heard me speak of Janine Schiller, a student in one of my past classes.  She is a wonderful lady full of life and for any of you who did not have the pleasure of meeting her, you would have  immediately been attracted to her vivacious, warm and caring  personality. As well as her quick wit and fantastic giggle!   I am passing this letter on to you in hopes that you will send prayers for her and her family as well as a donation if you desire to help.  Debbie Correale - SDP Certified Trainer

 

Dear Family and Friends,

 

As many of you know, my lifelong friend Janine (DeFazio) Schiller has been diagnosed with ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) is a rare, fatal neuromuscular disease that affects the motor neurons in the brain and the spinal cord. This results in a progressive loss of movement in all limbs, in addition to loss of speech, swallowing and breathing abilities. The patient’s mental abilities and sense of sight, hearing, touch, etc. remain intact. 

 

Since her diagnosis in the last few months, Janine’s disease has progressed rapidly. She can no longer drive. Her speech is severely impacted…if you know Janine, you know that is huge for her! She is currently using a walker and cannot do many things she was able to do on her own only a few months ago.

 

Janine will need equipment and care as her disease progresses. Her medications are quite costly and insurance only covers so much. She is not eligible for Social Security Disability because she has been a stay at home mom for the last 10 years. She is also not eligible for Medicare. Her husband Tim has had to take on all the tasks that Janine always took care of. This includes taking care of their three children, Timmy (10), Nina (7) and Anthony (4), the house and Janine. He is working remotely from home so that he doesn’t have to subcontract the care for his wife and children. This has had an impact to their income as Tim is self employed; along with the additional expenses of having a fatally ill wife. The only thing that I can do for Janine and her family is help them to raise money to make things as easy as possible for Janine. My goal is to raise a significant amount of money for her care prior to her 40^th birthday this summer. Your gift is not a tax deductible contribution, but it is also not taxable income to Janine and her family.
