Decorating fireplace mantels can often be a challenge, or so we
think. More times than not we make it more difficult than
it has to be. Most of us want that “WOW” factor when we enter
into a room, and know this can be achieved with just the right decorative touch. What we often forget or don’t
realize is sometimes it’s the simplest things that can give us the best
results.
In the top photo to the right, this homeowner wanted the “WOW” factor for her condominium. There was only this one wall to place any artwork and it was taken up with two windows and the fireplace in the center of a vaulted ceiling. She also wanted the room to feel "open and airy." The fireplace was also the first thing you saw when entering the room. She struggled with size of artwork, what color, and frame, without overpowering the room.
In this case, iron garden grills worked perfect. They were bought at Marshall's on clearance; the silk floral is from Pier 1 that gave the pop of color, two candles on the right were already there, and row of iron bird candles were an added purchase as well. Everything was achieved; it's open, it's airy, it's simply Chic!
Please one more post about that.I wonder how you got so good. This is really a fascinating blog, lots of stuff that I can get into. One thing I just want to say is that your Blog is so perfect

Colleen, I need to have a bit more information. Is this fireplace inset into the wall? In other words, what is on either side of the fireplace? Does the window touch the mantel? How tall is the window? If at all possible send a photo I can make a computer rendering to show exactly what to do. In the mean time I will put together some ideas. Stay tuned.

My mom and dad are building a new home and it has a challenging fireplace. It's very deep-with the mantel being 31 inches deep and there's a window above it. I don't have a photo, but any ideas you might have would be appreciated. Thanks

Angela, I agree with you. I'm going to post another good example soon. Do you have a photo you would like to share with us or any tips on how to decorate a fireplace mantel?

Bravo for writing on this topic. I find clients are most confused with scale on the fireplace - lining up items like little soldiers. "Attention!"
I love how the red and leopard pillow on the sofa unify and update the look.
